Phantom Rock, also known as Cheengeri Mala, is a striking natural rock formation near Ambalavayal in Wayanad. It resembles a human skull when viewed from certain angles and is surrounded by paddy fields and lush greenery.
Best time to visit: October to May. Late afternoon light is best for photographs of the rock.
Phantom Rock gets its name from the skull-like silhouette it forms against the sky from certain angles. The formation stands above green paddy fields near Ambalavayal, and the quiet country roads around it are pleasant to explore. There is a small garden near the viewpoint where visitors can stop to take in the view.
