Pookode Lake

Distance from Kalpetta: 8 km

Pookode Lake is a scenic freshwater lake in the Wayanad district in Kerala, South India. Pookode is a natural freshwater lake nestling amid evergreen forests and mountain slopes at an altitude of 770 metres above sea level.

Best time to visit: October to May. Early mornings are the best for photography as the mist clears over the lake.

Shaped roughly like the map of India, Pookode Lake is ringed by evergreen forests, coffee and spice plantations. A footpath runs around the shore, and visitors can hire pedal boats or rowing boats to explore the calm waters. A small freshwater aquarium and a children’s park sit near the lake, making it an easy family stop between Kalpetta and Lakkidi.
