Kuruva Island, also known as Kuruvadweep, is a group of small islands in the Kabini river near Mananthavady in Wayanad. Surrounded by the shallow, sandy river, the island is covered with dense forests, bamboo groves and winding streams.
Best time to visit: October to March, when the river is calm and crossing is safe.
Visitors reach Kuruva by walking through the shallow waters of the Kabini river or by traditional bamboo rafts operated by the local community. Walking trails cut through the forest, where visitors can spot butterflies, birds and sometimes elephants on the far bank. Kuruva Island is one of the best places in Wayanad for a peaceful day out in nature.
