Edakkal Caves near Sulthan Bathery are famous for 6,000-year-old petroglyphs (rock carvings) – the most important heritage site in Wayanad. To reach the caves you trek up Ambukutty Mala (about 55 minutes climb). Inside are two chambers: the lower (18 ft long, 12 ft wide, 10 ft high) and the upper (96 ft long, 22 ft wide, 18 ft high), with animal figures and ancient symbols on the walls.
