Top 5 Secret Waterfalls in Wayanad Near Our Homestays

Meenmutty Waterfalls

Wayanad is Kerala’s most lush, misty highland district, and its rains bring the hills alive with waterfalls. While the famous ones are always crowded, some of the most beautiful cascades sit quietly close to our homestays in Kalpetta and Vythiri. Here is our list of the best waterfalls to visit when you stay with us.

1. Meenmutty Waterfalls – The Mighty Cascade

Hidden deep inside the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Meenmutty is a three-tiered giant that plunges about 300 metres. The 2 km trek through dense forest is an adventure in itself, and the base of the falls is a great place to cool off. It is about 29 km from our homestays, and best seen between July and December when the water is full. Read our Meenmutty Waterfalls guide for timings and how to get there.

2. Soochippara Falls (Sentinel Rock Waterfalls)

Just 20 km from Kalpetta, Soochippara is a three-step waterfall surrounded by thick greenery and a calm pool at the bottom. It is family-friendly and perfect for a picnic, and the viewpoint on top gives you a sweeping view of the valley. See our Soochippara Falls tips here.

3. The Hidden Cascades Near Kuruva Island

Kuruva Island on the Kabini River is famous for its bamboo rafting, but the small streams and rapids around the island are less known and beautifully peaceful. The crystal-clear water flows over smooth rocks and creates natural jacuzzis perfect for a dip. Plan a full day here – you will not want to leave. Explore Kuruva Island.

4. Banasura Sagar Dam and Its Quiet Streams

The largest earthen dam in India is an engineering wonder, but around it you will find gentle streams, misty viewpoints and the Banasura Hill towering in the background. The scenery here changes with every hour of light, making it a photographer’s favourite. Everything you need to know about Banasura Sagar Dam.

5. Secret Streams of the Vythiri Highlands

A little off the tourist trail, the highlands around Vythiri are criss-crossed with small waterfalls that appear after a good shower.
